Bread heel flashback
Today I had a bread heel flashback. There is nothing worse than having a horrible childhood experience flash before your eyes when you least expect it. So goes my story:
Today I was hungry and decided to make some toast. When I reached into the bag of bread I pulled out two heels! My hunger over came my disdain for the two heels, so I put them in the toaster. I buttered them, and put them on a plate and pretended they were regular pieces of toast. I offered a piece to Rachel (who I knew was hungry) and she politely said no thank you. As she knew immediately that they were heels! I pretended she wasn't grossed out from my offering, and took a bite of the DRY, HARD, THICK substance. The bite sent me right back in time to age 8 when times were tough for my family, and my mom use to send me to school with "HEEL SANDWICHES"
The Culprit

The Flashback
Fried potatoes stuffed in between two HEELS, wrapped in FOIL, FOIL people!, and a dime for milk!!!!!! As I ate my sad lunch, and watched my classmates eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Twinkies, cupcakes and chips, I vowed when I grew up I would never eat fried potato sandwiches! Or THE HEELS!!!!
The Guilt
I have had to give my kids the heels in there lunch a couple of times, flipping them over so the good side shows, and hoping they wont feel the pain that I went through as a child. I am always in denial, and then the guilt sets in.
I know someone out there can relate to this. I Have felt the humiliation. Maybe we should start a support group.

I SO hate the heels!
My father-in-law is convinced that they are the most desirable slices b/c they "make your teeth sharp"...which apparently back in the day was desirable?? I think his mom made that up to keep the kids from complaining about eating them.
